I’ve said in the past that the reason I still can’t get into 06 is that I still think the level design had aesthetic isn’t enjoyable.
But when you’re working with one of the most widely panned games in history, you’re not gonna finish with a perfect final product.
ChaosX has made about 06 about as good as it could ever be while still being recognisably 06. Shoddy though they are, they’re unfortunately too baked into the bones of the original to change even if ChaosX wanted to.Īs another commentor said, sometimes you have to say when your work is done. The things that are still sub par in Project 06, like the level design, art direction and voice acting are stuff that was part of the base game’s fundamentals. How much can you change before we have a Ship of Theseus situation where the game is unrecognisable and might as well be an original fan game? And this is the inevitable tension when trying to remake a game that was legitimately bad.
One of which being its bloated gimmicky levels and bad enemy/hazard placement. I think we’re reaching the inevitable point where literally the only problems Project 06 has are the systemic problems of the original game.
