If you have a suitable laptop, it is too cheap not to get the cables. Another option is to share the full version with someone close by (maybe someone that already owns one) and have a lite version around the house. If not using it for new cars a new VCDS system would be overkill for just a UrS and expensive.
There are 19 modules to scan or modify in the wifes car and it uses CAN BUS which lite will not read. The graphing functions are much easier to use, but the newer versions of the software that requires the full system is because of newer vehicle requirements, which is what I purchased the full system for.
